  • Manage and supervise the Control Center team to ensure the efficient operation of CTA’s bus and rail systems. Lead the incident response process for service disruptions, emergencies, accidents, equipment failures, security threats, and other operational events. Coordinate incident command operations in accordance with CTA protocols and applicable emergency response frameworks (e.g., NIMS, ICS). Direct, real-time decisions regarding rerouting, evacuations, and service restoration prioritize customer and employee safety.   • Direct and monitor daily rail operations to ensure on-time performance, safety, and service quality. Adjust service levels in real time in response to emergencies, delays, or incidents, in coordination with the Control Center.Conduct field inspections and ride-alongs to evaluate operational standards and customer service. Provide training, coaching, performance reviews, and corrective actions as needed. Respond to rail incidents such as collisions, derailments, medical emergencies, or security threats. Serve as incident commander or field liaison with emergency responders and CTA stakeholders. Conduct operator audits, ride checks, and compliance inspections. Promote a safety-first culture, and identify opportunities to reduce risk or improve safety outcomes. Communicate service updates, bulletins, and policy changes to rail personnel, and internal teams. Assist in planning service adjustments for special events, construction, or weather-related impacts.

  • Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and repair work on railcar components, including doors, brakes, HVAC systems, propulsion equipment, and communication systems. Diagnose equipment malfunctions using tools, schematics, diagnostic software, and technical manuals. Replace or repair faulty parts and systems, such as motors, compressors, relays, wiring, piping, and couplers. Operate jacks, hoists, hand tools, power tools, and other shop equipment safely and effectively. Participate in overhaul and rebuild projects, equipment upgrades, and pilot programs. Perform cleaning, lubrication, and adjustments of mechanical and electrical components. Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical instructions to perform accurate repairs.

  • Operate CTA railcars in scheduled passenger service, adhering to signals, control center instructions, and CTA operating procedures. Pick up and alight passengers safely, communicate service updates, and ensure a smooth ride experience. Perform railcar switching, coupling, and uncoupling duties in CTA rail yards. Move trains to/from inspection pits, cleaning platforms, and shop tracks, as instructed. Coordinate with yardmasters and maintenance teams to position equipment accurately and safely. Transport defective, damaged, or out-of-service railcars, or train sets, to designated maintenance facilities or repair shops across the CTA system. Operate non-revenue movements under special instructions, with heightened attention to safety and routing.

  • Provide track protection for employees or contractors working on or near the right-of-way. Use approved signaling devices (flags, lights, horns, radios) to communicate with train operators and work crews. Monitor approaching train traffic, and relay clearance instructions to allow safe passage through or around work zones. Ensure work crews are positioned safely, and cleared from tracks prior to train arrival. Verify flagging instructions, track assignments, and protection limits before beginning duty. Set up signage, warning devices, or barriers as required by safety standards or job specifications. Assist in emergency response situations as directed, including setting up slow zones, or redirecting rail movement.

  • Greet and assist customers at CTA rail stations, providing information on routes. Monitor station activity to ensure customer safety, cleanliness, and security. Operate and troubleshoot fare collection equipment (Ventra machines). Provide support to customers with disabilities, or special needs. Report safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, and suspicious activity. Respond to customer complaints or concerns.

  • Process incoming detainees, including searching, inventorying property, photographing, fingerprinting, and entering personal and arrest information into department databases. Monitor detainees in lock-up cells to ensure safety and security.Maintain accurate records of detainee intake, release, property, and activities. Respond to emergencies such as medical incidents, attempted self-harm, or disturbances within the lock-up. Searched prisoners and conducted shakedowns of cells for valuables and contraband.

  • Respond promptly to emergency and non-emergency calls. Enforce laws and ordinances; issue citations, and make arrests when necessary. Testify in court proceedings, and provide credible testimony.
