Plastic Processing Experience
- Hands-On Injection Molding. He has optimized injection molding processes on a large variety of tools and machines. Having worked on machines from 50 Ton to 650 Ton with cycle times between 4.3 and 190 seconds, his experience is with commodity and engineered resins. He has processed single cavity molds where the operator must remove the molded part and trim the sprue, up to 24 cavity molds in high-speed packaging applications. He has processed many new molds. Working with Mold Makers, Quality Managers, and Process Techs to ensure proper documentation and training for new products.
- Mold Designs. Over the course of his career, he has worked with mold makers domestically and overseas on a large variety of projects. Hot-Runner, Insulated-Runner, and Direct-Sprue molds. From single cavity to multi cavity , helped to specify and design many molds including a Self-clamping mold assembly that he is listed as inventor on through GenCorp Automotive, US Patent #US5256056A filed Aug. 28, 1991.
- Other types of molding. Although his forte is Injection molding, he has been involved on a limited basis with Blow molding, Thermoforming, and Extrusion machines.
Relevant Accomplishments
- Working with External Customers. Extensive experience working with customers in the sales process and creating the ideal customer solutions, building trust, and providing estimates.
- Instrumental in positioning manufacturing operations for approx. 22.5% growth year after year. The sales/marketing functions were challenged with them responding. From 11 employees in 1997 to 96 in 2010 we ensured operations would outpace the sales/marketing needs while facilitating growth that outpaced the industry. They were able to deliver on their promises, ensuring quality and delivery.
- Foreseeing future needs and preparing. As Project Manager, this Fractional Manufacturing Executive designed and built automated packaging systems to reduce labor costs and quality issues. Created an automation department, and trained a staff of 3 people to help identify automation opportunities to improve efficiencies.
- Increased Operating income by almost 48%. Prior ownership allowed business to decline. As the new General Manager of this small company, he was responsible for all aspects of operations. I negotiated with suppliers to reduce costs and increase inventory turns. Through lean initiatives, Standard Operating Procedures, and a planned maintenance program I was able to reduce scrap and increase production.
- Instrumental in securing $1.5 MM in new business. As General Manager working with sales, we secured 3 new accounts which resulted in this substantial growth that was realized by 37.5% GPM. We provided customers with confidence by demonstrating a strong understanding of their needs. With our technical abilities and commitment, we were able to re-establish relationships with 7 former customers and added 9 new.
- Building for the future. As Plant Manager, This Fractional Manufacturing Executive was heavily involved with the design and layout of our new 100,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art, green manufacturing facility which included everything needed for a high speed, fast paced injection molding operation. Central housekeeping vacuum, material handling system, Chilled water, and compressed air, machines, various departments and offices all laid out to enhance efficiency.
- Time to move. As Plant Manager he planned, orchestrated, and oversaw the move of a 17-machine operation from our 50,000 sq. ft. facility to the new 100,000 sq. ft. facility. As a 24/5 injection molding facility, we moved the entire operation in just under 30 days. The goal was to not disrupt or alarm our customers. The move was a success, we achieved our second highest producing month on record without missing due dates or having any quality issues reported by his customers.
- Oncore presentation. As General Manager, this Fractional Manufacturing Executive found myself once again expanding and moving a company into a new facility. This time it was a 9-machine operation from a 10,000 sq. ft. facility into a new 50,000 sq. ft. facility. Maintaining production and quality standards so as not to concern customers, this move was accomplished in less than 30 days. It was the 5th time he was involved with moving a company.
- Partnership with Sales and Marketing. As Technical Manager, he worked with Sales and Marketing to secure several new customers resulting in the addition of 32 new SKU’s. Working with customers on material selection, Fit for Manufacturing, and tooling options he was able to instill the confidence needed to move forward.
- Company Policies and Procedures. As HR Manager, this Fractional Manufacturing Executive was able to implement incentive programs based on attendance and safety. These programs boosted employee attendance and punctuality along, and increased participation with minimal expense to the company. The result was less chaos and scrambling. trying to cover for no-shows, long lunches, late arrivals, and early dismissals. These programs reduced overtime and resulted in less downtime and increased production.
